Margit studied technical chemistry at Graz University of Technology, followed by a PhD thesis in Organic Chemistry. A three years time as scientific assistant at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at TUGraz was followed by a one year Post-Doc as Erwin-Schrödinger fellow at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. Margit returned as as Senior PostDoc to the Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology, had two maternity leaves, became Elise-Richter fellow in 2015 and did her Habilitation in Biotechnology in 2019. Since 2015, she has a double affiliation to TUGraz and ACIB.
