Karin Sardadvar is a sociologist specializing in work research. Her main research areas are work and gender, the relationships between paid and unpaid work (housework, care), and the working conditions in service and low-wage sectors (e.g., cleaning, care). Her research approaches focus on interpretative sociological theories and qualitative empirical research methods. Karin studied sociology and languages in Austria, Sweden and the UK. She received her Ph.D in sociology from the University of Vienna in 2011. She has been working at different universities and research institutions, including the Working Life Research Centre FORBA (2010-2017). Since 2005, she has been teaching in the fields of sociological theories, qualitative research methods, work research and gender studies at different Austrian universities. She has received several awards for her research and teaching. Since 2018, Karin has been working as a senior post-doc researcher at the Institute of Sociology and Social Research at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien) in the Elise Richter programme of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). In her research project “SPLITWORK” (Split shifts and the fragmentation of working lives; Austrian Science Fund FWF: V-598), she investigates the working time model of split shifts in the cleaning and the care sectors. As part of the project, she was a visiting researcher at SINTEF Science & Technology, Trondheim, Norway in May-June 2019, and at Linköping University (LIU), Sweden, in September/October 2021.
