Julia Dahlvik is a sociologist and professor at the University of Applied Sciences FH Campus Wien. Before that, she worked at the University of Vienna (Sociology Department; Research Platform Migration and Integration), the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Institute for Regional and Urban Planning), and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute Health Promotion Research. She was also a lecturer at the Universities of Graz and Innsbruck; and she looks back on research visits at the Universities of Stanford and Amsterdam. Her dissertation “Inside Asylum Bureaucracy”, published with the Springer IMISCOE Series (Open Access), was awarded the Dissertation Prizes of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2012) and of the Austrian Sociological Association (2015).
Her current research focuses on sociology of law and organisations, public administration, in particular with regard to ombuds institutions; she works with qualitative and ethnographic methods. Her Elise Richter project takes the work she started in a project funded by the Jubilee Fund of the Austrian National Bank on the Austrian Ombudsman Board to a next level by conducting an international comparative study in the ombuds field.
